JGH Group’s global Solar business is growing and they need an experienced Renewable Energy Engineer to support their Solar projects technically from scratch or pre-tender stage to final implementation and commissioning including design and all development phases.

They work with public tenders for solar PV projects in developing countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa funded by development agencies and develop solar projects from scratch up to utility scale.

The Senior Renewable Energy Engineer reports to the Renewable Energy Team Leader and will be involved in the projects from early phases such as design, green-field development, pre-tender analysis, supply-chain management, procurement and delivery planning to actual implementation and commissioning on site.
The typical tasks include:
- System design of solar-focused projects i.e., solar PV, hybrid etc.
- Analysis of technical tender documents
- Selection of equipment in compliance to standards
- Preparation of Bills of Materials (BOM)
- Preparation of As-built drawings, training, and maintenance plans
- Technical documentation: technical drawings, technical descriptions, manuals, checklists, …
- Execute all electrical calculations such as but not limited to cable sizing / voltage drop etc.
- Dealing with technical queries from clients, users, installers, and manufacturers
- Supply chain management, procurement process and supplier verification
- Guiding installation teams (remotely and on site)
- Travel to site for system commissioning if needed
- Eventually co-manage projects, from bid submission to commissioning (turnkey)
The travelling activity is mostly to Africa and is expected to be 60 – 100 days annually.
The ideal candidate
You have an engineering background within Electrical Engineering, and you have a minimum of 10 years of experience with designing, planning and implementation of Solar projects or of medium/high voltage power or electrical systems.
It is required that you hold a valid High Voltage and Medium Voltage certification, and that you are experienced in ensuring technical compliance with standards.
To be efficient in the role, you must master MS Office / MS Excel at an advanced level, and you must have experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software. It is a plus if you have experience in solar energy software like PVSyst, Helioscope or PVSol.
Aside from full working proficiency in English verbal and written, it would be an advantage if you master other languages like French or Portuguese. As a senior member of the technical team, you will be expected to be an excellent communicator, who can successfully present complex concepts to a wide range of audiences, including non-technical team members or external parties such as clients and suppliers.
You are well-organized with strong attention to detail as required to plan and manage projects successfully, and you might even have some project management experience.
Furthermore, you are robust, a team player, accountable and able to work independently and as part of a team, taking a high level of accountability with a problem-solving mindset.
It is expected that you are prepared for extensive travel activity to remote sites, if needed.
