R&D Manager for dedicated team developing flavor enhancers for the pet food industry

The Organization

In our business unit for Digest, Fats & Meals, we develop, produce and sell flavor enhancers for dog and cat food (named Digest). Our products are the result of 15 years of R&D achieving deep chemical insights that allow us to reduce animal testing and create superior products. Our production sites are located in Denmark, Spain and Poland.

Our R&D team related to the development of Digest consists of five skilled and highly educated employees;three R&D specialists, one Data Analyst and one Laboratory Technician. The team collaborates closely with production, sales, quality and procurement to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards and market demands. You will be reporting directly to the Business Unit Director, an agronomist with a strong background in biology.

 

The Position

The new R&D Manager will be responsible for advancing the development of Digest to the next level. You will lead the team and collaborate closely with our associated factory in Denmark, while also maintaining contact with our factory in Spain and our new factory in Poland. Additionally, you will work closely with quality and sales and moderate travel is expected:

 

Core responsibilities:

▪ Leadership and development of the R&D team
▪ Development and optimization of new and existing Digest products and processes
▪ Conducting various analyses
▪ Supporting production, sales, quality and procurement with current products and new product introductions
▪ Ensuring compliance with legislation and internal guidelines
▪ Participating in conferences, exhibitions and seminars
▪ Overseeing workplace safety and laboratory operations

 

The Candidate

To succeed in this role, we are looking for a candidate with relevant education and experience in the food sector, such as a Chemical Engineer in Food Science, Biologist, or any higher education in natural sciences with a strong emphasis on chemistry, particularly organic chemistry (biochemistry). Additionally, the ideal candidate:

▪ really wants to achieve tangible results, such as clearly defining the R&D Department and introducing new technology
▪ possesses strong interpersonal skills and systematic work habits; knowledge of pet food and digest products is an advantage, but not required
▪ is self-driven, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator in English; proficiency in Danish is an advantage
▪ excels at leading highly skilled specialists and unlocking their potential
